1 year ShopWeDo Ostend

Last May, we opened our first e-fulfilment center in West Flanders.
A strategic hub in the inner port of Ostend that had been planned earlier.
Its opening was eventually brought forward by a month.
The cause?
A sudden increase in demand for e-commerce during the initial lockdown.
Work was done day and night to ensure the accelerated startup.

Capacity

In our ShopWeDo warehouse in Ostend there is room for 3,300 shelf locations and 1,200 pallet locations.
In the meantime, a lot has changed in 1 year.
What started in 2020 with an empty space is now filling up nicely.
In addition, there are still plenty of expansion opportunities available for the future to scale up our operations there.

Strong duo

Team Ostend consists of two men for now.
Bart and Michael joined ShopWeDo to keep the hub on the coast running. Warehouse manager Bart won’t soon forget his first week in Ostend.
Shortly after the opening, he received support from Michael.
Soon you will see Michael appearing in our Meet the team section, be sure to keep an eye on it.

“I was the first and worked there all by myself in the beginning. The day before the opening I still did the inbound with Kenny. Then it was up to me. In the end, you’re still 150 km from everyone (in Mechelen).” – Bart

Attractive location

The branch on the coast is not accidentally located in Ostend.
The management was already familiar with the region and the warehouse is in an interesting logistics location (near E40, Ostend airport and the port of Zeebrugge).
From the beginning it was chosen not to work from one huge warehouse.
The different locations give more flexibility to adapt the service to the customer or region.

Location-independent e-WMS

ShopWeDo Ostend is about +/- 150 km from the main location in Mechelen, yet the distance is not a bottleneck.
Our e-WMS was developed in such a way that the software does not depend on location.
