Meet The Team – Emiel

Emiel, our account manager, has been a valuable asset to our team for the past year and a half. With his entrepreneurial spirit, he makes a significant impact daily at ShopWeDo. Curious about his biggest nightmare? Be sure to read on!

How did you actually end up at ShopWeDo? You have a pretty unusual background, right?

Yes indeed, my background is somewhat atypical. I worked at a bank for about three years, dealing mainly with corporate loans. However, that turned out not to be my calling. In the meantime, together with my partner I ran our own webshop, called Kadee, founded, specializing in gifts. That's how I got into the world of e-commerce. To expand my knowledge, I started researching and listening to podcasts. In one of those podcasts, I heard Kenny tell his story about ShopWeDo, and I immediately thought, "This might be for me.". Coincidentally, they had a job opening for account manager at the time. During the interviews, it clicked right away. Having an e-commerce store myself, I can empathize with the needs of our customers. Moreover, this job gives me a lot of satisfaction because I can really make a difference in an SME like ShopWeDo.

How would you explain your work to your grandmother?

I help companies sell their products over the Internet. Imagine you buy a pair of shoes online. Those shoes have to be picked up in a warehouse somewhere and packed neatly in a box before they get to you. That's exactly the service ShopWeDo offers. Most people look at me and say, "Did you leave the bank for that? That doesn't sound very exciting.". But then when I tell them about the robots and automation involved, as well as the software developed in-house, they suddenly become very curious. After all, it turns out to be a very unfamiliar but extremely exciting world.

What is the most enjoyable moment of your day?

Those have to be my two coffee moments, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I like to drink coffee and I can really enjoy this. I prefer to combine this with undisturbed work. Another highlight is undoubtedly Friday afternoon, when the clock strikes 4 p.m. Like many colleagues, I look forward to going into the weekend and relaxing for a while, whether or not after a stopover in our ShopWeDo bar.

Do you buy a lot online yourself?

I'm not really a fanatical shopper. I only buy something if I really need it, but if I buy something, I usually do it online. My girlfriend knows that I hate shopping in any form, especially in supermarkets. You will rarely see me in the shopping streets. A Saturday on rue Neuve in Brussels during the Christmas period is a nightmare for me (laughs).
